Flight Director Slayton is major character from Lunar Colony Island. He is the director of the mission to bring Rachel Salerno back to Poptropica.
Characteristics[]
Appearance[]
Personality[]
Demanding and Authoritative[]
He frequently gives orders to Glen, often using phrases like "You'll have to steer your way through it!" or "Get back on track!" He cuts Glen off when Glen tries to ask questions ("This ...no time... questions!") and is quick to express his frustration when Glen appears to be "stalling."
Mission-Focused/Goal-Oriented[]
Slayton is primarily concerned with the success of the mission and getting Salerno back. He prioritizes this above Glen's discomfort or even his father's immediate concerns for Glen's safety, stating that "abandoning the mission and leaving Salerno up there just isn’t an option."
Pragmatic/Less Emotional[]
While he understands Mr. Johns's fear as a father, he doesn't let it deter him from the mission. He dismisses the obelisks as "probably just natural rock formations" and says he doesn't "really care" about them, highlighting his focus on the practical objectives.
Concerned with Public Image/Results[]
He mentions the "media attention" and how Glen's bravery has "rejuvenated people's interest in space," suggesting that the space program's public perception and continued funding are important to him.
Ultimately Supportive (of mission success)[]
Despite his gruff demeanor and initial anger at Glen's disobedience, he tells Glen to "Make us proud" at the very end, indicating a desire for Glen to succeed in what he believes is important.
Under Pressure[]
He is clearly under pressure from Director McNabb to succeed and is worried about being in "real trouble" if he fails.
