>> Glitches/Poptropica Coding

Glitches are bugs in Poptropica's code. The island with the most glitches just by number is Counterfeit Island, but the island whose glitches impact the game the most is Mocktropica Island.

Glitches usually cause trouble while playing an island. However, in uncommon cases, they can benefit the player.

Key

  • Red: Severe glitch that can make an island unbeatable without restarting, or crash the computer.
  • Orange: Glitch that makes an island more difficult, but still beatable. (Glitches that require you to log out to resume playing are also orange.)
  • Blue: Minor glitch that does not affect gameplay.
  • Green: Continuity error.
  • Black: Glitches that positively affect players.
  • Dark Red: Patched glitch. (Glitches that no longer exist.)

Early Poptropica

  • Barrel Glitch: When you try to get the Jet Pack, you will have to hover up from the propellers over a plane. If you land on the plane that you're trying to get over and jump to the far right, you will land on the right side of the barrel. When you try jumping over it, you will be blocked by the barrel. Since you're stuck there, restarting the island is the only way to finish the game.
  • Early Glitch: Give the Prized Porker to the Early Poptropicans, then give them the Bucket. If you fly up and give the Flag to the Early Poptropican on the tower before the Bucket appears at the well, he will say that he'll raise it once you've found all of their possessions. You have to click on the Poptropican you gave the Bucket to in order to see the image of the Bucket being given to him. The ship will not arrive until you do this.

Time Tangled

  • Magic Goggles Glitch: After you return the climbing goggles to the correct time period, sometimes when you return to the guy who gave it to you, he will be wearing the same pair of goggles.
  • Ad Glitch: If you go into an ad on Main Street, the Time Device still appears at the bottom left of the screen. If you click it, the year display is blank and the arrow points at the picture of Thomas Edison.
  • Future Time Glitch: When you're in the future and you click on "LAB" to go back to your present time, the time device will send you there, but the year displayed is still the future year's date, fifty years from the year in which you are playing.
  • Mask Glitch: After you wear the mask and get the goggles from the Aztecs that hit you, you can take off the mask and go to them and they will react calmly.
  • Gliding Glitch: While in any time period other than the present, if you run away while you are receiving something, you will glide in that direction until you hit an object. Sometimes, hitting something will not stop the glitch; you will be stuck until you refresh the page.

24 Carrot

  • Timestop Press Glitch: In the smelter room, if you are hit by the hot carrot juice and go flying only to be hit by a giant press, you will remain frozen and your cursor will become a loading swirl. This will make it impossible to continue unless you log out and log back in. The only other way to get out of the glitch without logging back in is to be sent flying into a second presser (meaning you have to be hit by the second wave of carrot juice and pressers). This one will actually flatten you like it's supposed to and your cursor won't freeze in the loading swirl.
  • Rabbot Ears Glitch: Sometimes after you get the rabbot drone ears and go back to the processing room, talking to the girl with the flowered shirt will cause a glitch to occur. Even though she no longer has buckteeth or swirly eyes, she will go through the same dialogue as when she was being controlled by the ears. Asking her "look out behind you!" and shutting off her ears again will fix this.
  • Holding a Cup o' Black Glitch: Go into the Carrot King Diner and go to the ice cold drinks. Fill up your cup all white and while you are drinking, press Ctrl/Command + Shift + S. Your cursor will be the loading icon. Go back. You'll be standing outside of the diner with a cup of black juice in your hand.
  • Holding a Cup o' Blue Glitch: Go into the Carrot King Diner and go to the ice cold drinks. Fill up your cup (with any color) and while you are drinking, press Ctrl+Shift+S. Close the game then reopen it, your character should be holding a cup of blue drink.
  • Yay, I Just Learned To Teleport Glitch: If the Timestop Press Glitch occurs before you get the rabbot drone ears and you log out when you reach the end of the conveyor belt, you will be right next to the ears when you log back in.

Super Power

  • Stupid Jumper Glitch: At the end of the island, if you have flying power, stand on the ledge below Speeding Spike, Sir Rebral and Copy Cat. Talking to Crusher, Ratman or Betty Jetty will cause you to fly onto the ledge next to these foul villains and be stuck jumping. Unlike the Spy Island Stupid Jumper Glitch, however, you can exit this by flying.
  • Revenge of the Supervillains Glitch: Normally, when someone is talking, you can press S and they'll stop talking. However, when you've captured a supervillain and the guy at the prison is thanking you, or when Ratman says "You've found me, well let's see how you like my little friends!" you cannot do this.
  • Angry Flyer Glitch: Pressing Ctrl, Shift, and 3 together make you do the "angry" emotion where your head turns red. However, if you have flying turned on and you fly when your face is red, your face will be red until you land. (See "Angry Smile Glitch" for Generic.)
  • Land Swimmer Glitch: At the prison, go to the highest part of the building and jump. Sometimes, if you swim from water to land quickly, you'll do the swimming motions on land.
  • Floating Soda Bottles Glitch: To perform this glitch, you must own the "Soda Bottle" store item. First, go to the window cleaner elevator on the "The Daily Paper" building on Main Street. Next, equip the soda bottle item. As you go up and down, keep placing the soda bottles and they will float wherever you placed them. Try clicking the soda bottles and see what happens!

Spy

  • Eye Doctor Glitch: If you go into the spyglass store and equip your bowtie, then try to click one of the inventions on the above floor, the eye doctor/spy equipment supplier will fall through the floor and tell you that they are prototypes (which you already knew). He will stay on that floor until you leave the shop.
  • Stupid Jumper Glitch 2: In the B.A.D. Bistro, after you've gotten the chef job, talking to the woman will always make you talk to the boss (the guy who says "Hurry up, I want my drink!"). However, if you're standing on the edge of the table when you do this, you'll start glitchily jumping, the mouse will become the loading cursor, and you won't be able to do anything. The only way to escape this is to close Poptropica and then log back in.
  • Black Eye Glitch: If you're wearing the Chameleon Suit and you costumize off of someone, clicking on your head will cause the head part of the Chameleon Suit to disappear, but your eyes will be black.
  • Maroon Rider Glitch: If the B.A.D. agent on the rooftops is standing still and you're close enough (but not overlapping), clicking on him will cause the "Chat-Battle-Friend" screen to appear. Pressing "friend" will cause you to friend a girl called Maroon Rider. Maroon Rider has completed 0 islands, hasn't set a location, has not selected a tribe, has a battle ranking of 1, and has 0 friends. It looks like she has 0 photos, but really she has your photos. Pressing "battle," and then a game, will cause the "Chat-Battle-Friend" screen to disappear. Pressing "chat" will act like the BAD agent is a person in a common room.
  • Just Standing There Glitch: If you do the Maroon Rider glitch and try to drop down next to the Balding Avenue sign, you will be just standing there and only half of your face will be there.
  • Dancing Glitch: On top of the headquarters on Main Street, if you jump up onto the highest point of the building (not the power line) and talk to the spy, your character will try to fall down to the same level as the spy, but won't be able to do so.
  • Defective Bowtie Glitch: When you're on the rooftops and you use your grappling bowtie to jump to the building over on the far left, your screen will reload and you'll end up falling off the roof. It doesn't matter which building you try to jump off; you will always end up falling back to the buildings below. Without making it over to the far left building, you cannot get into the greenhouse, and there's no way for you to continue. Logging out and logging back in doesn't work. Restarting the island is the only solution.

Nabooti

  • Invisible Platform Glitch: Once you complete the island, jump up to the top of the Museum next to the greeter and jump into the center of the Nabooti statue room. You will stand where the statue's head used to be.
  • Trapped Under the Pyramid Floor Glitch: In the Giza Pyramid, you can encounter a glitch that occurs after failing the third puzzle three times (possibly). You fall through the platform, but instead of ending up back underneath the hieroglyphs, you will end up under the floor at the entrance of the tomb. The only way to get out seems to be going into another island via the map and returning, or restarting the island. (This needs to be confirmed.)

Big Nate

  • Egg Teddy Glitch: Teddy may appear without his usual body, with it being replaced by a gigantic Poptropican torso. This is because Teddy is actually an Afro Guy.
  • Map Glitch: The map in the detention room is missing a few countries, including Greenland and Australia, and South America and Antarctica are misshapen.
  • Scuba Gear Glitch: You don't have to get the scuba gear to dive. You can customize it off of someone else, such as in a common room.

Counterfeit

  • Black Widow Glitch: If you log out in the middle of the boss battle with the Black Widow, you will appear in the Black Widow's house, with no way back into her hideout. You must restart the island to finish it.
  • Incredibly Addictive Glitch: When you play the game in the Internet Cafe, the "Restart" and "Close" buttons don't work when you lose. The buttons at the top (Daily Pop, Store, etc.) don't work either. "Friends" works occasionally, but pressing anything doesn't work. You have to close Poptropica and log in again to fix this.
  • Bending Down Glitch: In the Internet Cafe, if you're standing on the dictionary and click on it, nothing will happen. The same thing happens with the computer.
  • Antisocial Clown Glitch: If you attempt to show the clown on the roof of the clown shop the photo of the strange man, you will drop onto the street and ask one of the mimes instead.
  • Antisocial Tour Guide Glitch: If you try to show the picture of the man to the tour guide, you will run across the street and ask one of the mimes instead.
  • Invisible Platform Glitch 2: If you go to where the gamer's laptop is and jump up, you will land on an invisible platform. You can't talk to the gamer while doing this.
  • New Balloon Glitch: If you pop the green balloon as you are about to hand it to the balloon boy, he will float up holding a red one.
  • Invisible Wall Glitch: If you go down the ancient tunnel with a balloon and jump smoothly towards the hill right after the dome space, you'll go through the hill and end up in the dirt.
  • Time-Traveling Security Guard: The security guard's time card says that his time in was 10:00 PM on Monday, but it says his time out was 3:56 AM on Monday. 3:56 AM would have had to have been on Tuesday as he worked past midnight, therefore starting the new day.
  • Gender Glitch: When you're in the Web Browser Internet Cafe and you click the use button on the "Underground Tunnel Tour Tickets," your player will say "They might belong to her, but she's hypnotized by that game right now," even though the Poptropican who's playing the video game is a male.
  • Talking to the Black Widow Glitch: If you keep your balloon until the Black Widow battle, you can jump up to her. The "Chat/Battle/Friend" window will appear when you click on her.

Reality TV Island

  • Mouth Change Glitch: If you are chewing Popgum and then you go onto the spinning helicopter blades, removing the gum will cause your mouth to become Afro Guy's mouth.
  • Resetting the Game Glitch: If you hate the map selected, you can just hit the Undo Button and then hit the Reset button. It will be the same day and the map will almost always be different.
  • Totem Hop Glitch: Occasionally during the totem hop, the characters will move around holding random items and doing random actions. Afro Guy might replace every character as well. You will have to log out and log back in to fix this.

Mythology

  • Quest From The Gods Glitch: When you have collected the Golden Apple, if you exit the tree area before Zeus appears, you will be able to collect the scroll with the items on it, but you will not be able to pass the purple goat to get to Hades and Poseidon. The only way to fix this is by restarting the island.
  • Invisible Glitch: In Poseidon's realm, if you are holding the trident, hit space twice and you will become invisible.

Skullduggery

  • No Teeth Glitch: A man in the pub on Parrot Port will ask you how he's supposed to eat a cracker with no teeth, but when he speaks you can see that he has teeth.
  • Quicksand Glitch: If you shoot a cannonball onto land, it makes a water splash.
  • Sleepy Announcer Glitch: When you see a pirate, you're supposed to get an announcement like this: "(Random name) the (random adjective) says, 'Avast, (your Poptropican's name)! Is that your ship or a (random phrase)?'" However, a glitch can delay this announcement until much later, sometimes even after you've killed the pirate!
  • The Pirate's Revenge Glitch: Sometimes when a pirate ship sinks on the rocks off Golden Harbor, collecting its salvage gives you nothing.
  • Evil Dock Glitch: If you stand on a dock and click "Embark," you jump into the ocean right below the cabin, but you don't actually enter the boat and the map doesn't pop up. You might have to log out and log back in to fix this.
  • Pegleg Glitch: Sometimes when you have a pegleg, it will show two regular legs with a pegleg loosely dangling from one.
  • I'm Too Active Glitch: This glitch stops you from walking and only lets you run.

Steamworks

  • Trapped Under the Floor Glitch: When you are on the bottom floor of the Captain's Cabin, you may fall through and only be able to see yourself if you jump. You cannot jump high enough to return to the floor. You will also automatically stop when you reach the edge of the balcony, making it impossible for you to fall off. You must log out and log back in to fix this.

Cryptids

  • Two Ropes Glitch: When you go to the guy in the hot air balloon and cut the rope tying the balloon to the roof, the rope goes into your inventory. A glitch can occur when he doesn't get released from the roof, so you have to get on the roof and cut the rope again. This will give you another set of rope.

Wild West

  • Balloon/Follower Glitch: If you have a balloon or a follower and you enter Diamond Plains on a horse, then the balloon or follower will be floating where your horse entered the town. If you dismount, your balloon or follower will return, but if you mount again, it will remain where you mounted. Done with a 4th birthday balloon.
  • Greasing Gears Glitch: Whenever you go to grease the gears in the clock tower, when you try to grease one of the gears directly, it won't do anything. This is because the alignment of the oil and gears are super off. To grease the gears move the oil can a bit to the right of where you would like to grease the gears, and it should work.

Mystery Train

  • Skipping Glitch: Sometimes, if you've already beaten this island before and you try to beat it again, when you hop on the train it skips past part of the island so that the crime has already begun, but you have no items. For example, when you go into Harry Houdini's room, before you even know it's him, he already starts taking off. It is unknown if this glitch is patched or not, but if you get it, I'm pretty sure restarting is the only solution.

Ghost Story

  • Fiona Glitch: When you show the letter to Fiona that you found in the locket, she will cry, but a glitch can occur and she will cry endlessly. If you reload the page or log out, then you appear back in Fiona's room, but she will be at the telescope, and she will say, "Tell Jane the Baker I sent you." You will have all your items, but you will still need to start over from the beginning.
  • Balloon/Follower Glitch 2: If you have a balloon or a follower and you ride the boat, then the balloon or follower will appear in the water. The boat is not affected by it. Done with a 4th birthday balloon.
  • Infinite Lockets Glitch: Every time you examine the shipwreck, you get a locket, even if it's already in your inventory! When you give a locket to Fiona, only one locket is "given" to her, but all others are removed from your inventory.

S.O.S

  • Yay, I Just Learned To Teleport Glitch 2: When you enter the ship and then open a new tab, after a while you may go through the ship floor. If there is water above you, you can swim up to escape this glitch. If there isn't water, the oxygen meter will still show, and clicking resets it. Running out of oxygen causes you to respawn in the black. Without any water to swim up into, you will remain stuck underneath the ship. You have to log out and log back in to fix this, which will cause you to appear below the blimp rope. (Done on Google Chrome.)
  • Antisocial Passengers Glitch: When you begin the island, a lifeboat goes by with three passengers in it. You cannot talk to these passengers.
  • Invisible Platform Glitch 3: When you get to the oven, step on the ice cube while it's still frozen. Once it melts, you will be standing on an invisible platform.
  • No Eyes Glitch: When the whale gets you out of the bridge, Captain Boomer has no eyes.

Vampire's Curse

  • Bram's Clothes Glitch: If you shoot the crossbow when Count Bram appears, you won't have the swirly icon and you can customize off of him.
  • Count Bram Glitch: In the great hall, on the chandeliers, if you jump high enough, you can see Count Bram in the wall, just standing in the black.
  • Count Bram Glitch 2: There is a glitch where you can friend or chat with Count Bram, but if you friend him, it turns out to be Maroon Rider!
  • Invisible Items Glitch: Sometimes items like the Crowbar and Root Causes book are invisible, but still there - they just show up as empty space. You can still get them, but you have to look up a walkthrough with pictures / video to see exactly where you need to click to get the item.

Twisted Thicket

  • Amulet Glitch: If you log out and log back in during the construction truck chase (while wearing the Amulet), you will still be wearing it once you stop the trucks, even though the "real" Amulet is returned to the Elf Queen. However, you cannot become any of the three creatures on any other island. (See the closets of Happy Lobster [username: topkop88] or Speedy Catfish [username: thinknoodles] for proof.)
  • Free Bonus Quest Glitch: After you do the Amulet Glitch and complete the island, go to the Tunnels and try entering the high door directly to the right of the Tunnels' exit leading to the Construction Zone. A normal Poptropican can't jump up to it, so use the Dryad part of the Amulet to fly up to it. Enter it and you can start the Members Only bonus quest, even if you are not a member (look at the Twisted Thicket Bonus Quest guide in this wiki).

Wimpy Boardwalk

  • Going back to boardwalk glitch: When you try to go back to the boardwalk from the beach, a page will come up saying "Arcade No Longer Available." To fix this just hit the undo button.

Lunar Colony

  • 112 Degrees Glitch: When you are in the spaceship and have adjusted the thrust and the fuel tank, the PASE control person will tell you to adjust your angle to 112 degrees. What is supposed to happen is you exit the Earth's atmosphere. Sometimes he will just repeatedly tell you to adjust your angle, even after you've already done it, until your fuel runs out. He will still continue reminding you! You can fix this by either restarting the island or by switching to a different browser. Note, in some cases having your browser zoom not at 100% is the cause, and after returning the zoom to 100% and refreshing, the issue will be resolved.
  • Toolkit Glitch: When repairing your fuel tank, you are unable to grab the tool case. Interacting with it will stop it's spinning, but you will be unable to perform any actions besides that. This glitch also prevents your character from maneuvering to a point below the ship - there is an invisible floor your character walks on even in empty space.
  • Elevator button glitch: The elevator buttons are inverted, when the elevator is at the top of the tower the "up" button is illuminated, and pressing it calls the elevator to the bottom. When the elevator is at the bottom, the "down" button is illuminated, and pressing it calls the elevator to the top.
  • Claustrophobia Glitch: When you first arrive on the moon, you can jump from the shuttle onto the PASE sign and then onto the main colony building. However, if you fall or jump off the building to the far right, there is no way for you to get back up and you will be trapped. Refreshing the page will result in you ending up back on the PASE sign.

Super Villain Island

  • Stuck Behind the Rocks Glitch: When you try to jump up onto the ocean rocks where the prison is located, a glitch may occur that doesn't allow you to see yourself. You will be able to see your cursor and the screen will still mirror your jumps and movements, but it will be as if you're behind the pile of rocks. This will make it harder to climb them, since you can't truly see where you are or gauge where you're jumping as accurately, but if you watch the screen closely, you will be able to do it. Once you make it to the top of the pile where the building is, you'll be able to see yourself again. (I'm not sure if refreshing the page fixes this...I managed to jump up to the top without doing so.)
  • Binary Bard's Revenge Glitch: Sometimes when you're in the Binary Bard's dream, you can enter through the first door without the stopwatch. However, you cannot get past the second door, and since you don't have any way to get Mordred through, the dream won't progress and you can't do anything but wake up and try again when you have the stopwatch.
  • Dr. Hare Ears Power Glitch: If you activate the Dr. Hare Ears Power from your items, the villains sleeping in the Dream Machine will have their eyes open and will be wearing Dr. Hare Ears. The accessories even come off (Binary Bard's bionic eye, Dr. Hare's goggles, Captain Crawfish's eyepatch).
  • Captain Crawfish Glitch: Sometimes when you are caught by the pirates inside the bottle, you might respawn to see that the cannons don't move and the pirates cannot be woken up by jumping on top of them. You can retry by either waking up, or clicking on the tilted cannon to shoot at the nearest pirate, who will promptly wake up.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

  • Ghost Oompa-Loompa Glitch: When the Oompa-Loompas push Violet Beauregarde to the juicing room, she disappears when the Oompa-Loompas pass the door, but the Oompa-Loompas keep pushing, even entering the wall.
  • Violet Glitch: If you don't get the puzzle right while rescuing Violet, your jumps will lag while you're still in the room. (Needs to be confirmed.)
  • Fizzy Drink Glitch: If you stand right next to the incinerator in the nut room and press use on the fizzy drink just as you're about to fall off the conveyor belt, the drink will appear in your hand and you'll fall to the floor below. Then the cursor will become the loading swirl and you won't be able to move. The only way to escape this glitch is to log out and log back in, or wait for Veruca Salt and her father to enter the incinerator and start over.
  • Progress Glitch: Completing all four zones in the factory does not update the room highlight wheel that informs you to go talk to Willy Wonka. Refreshing the page causes you to be placed outside the factory with an empty backpack, however all the NPC's are still located in the factory, and the factory gates are closed making it impossible to complete the island without restarting. To avoid encountering this glitch, complete the rooms in sequence, starting at the room located at the bottom of the room selector and finishing in the room located at the top of the room selector.
  • Demo Glitch: Even though Charlie and the Chocolate Factory has been available for everyone since 2012, a glitch will occur that will not allow you to finish playing. When you get to a certain point, a message will come up telling you that your free demo is over and you must become a member to finish the island. Refreshing or restarting does not solve the problem, and this makes Charlie and the Chocolate Factory impossible to finish for non-members. This may be because of the current conversion of Poptropica from Flash to HTML5 format.
    • This glitch also occurs on Wimpy Wonderland, Wimpy Boardwalk, Big Nate, and Nabooti Islands.

Zomberry

  • Flying Zombie Glitch: In the Wharf, there are zomberries that can walk between crates.

Night Watch

  • Mall Manager Returns: A glitch might cause you to be unable to leave the mall. When you try to exit through the Security Office, the Mall Manager will suddenly be there and will go through the same script that she invited you in with earlier, and then you'll be automatically led back into the mall! Even though your training is complete, you can't go in the room without being led back out again. Logging out doesn't fix this. Restarting is the only solution.
  • Sluggers Common Room Glitch: After retrieving the baseball card from Sluggers, sometimes you get the "Chat/Battle/Friend" option, even though there are no other characters there with you. (I don't know exactly how to reproduce this, but here's what I did. After investigating the disturbance at McGuffins, I received the "Disturbance at Sluggers" alert. I called the Sluggers owner inside McGuffins, and he told me to get the card. I went down to the Security Office to find where Sluggers was, then I went there and moved the statue. I waited until it got dark, then opened the safe. After getting the card, I got the "chat/battle/friend" screen. Pressing "battle" caused the "chat/battle/friend" screen to disappear.)
  • Super Speed Glitch: When riding your segway at top speeds, if you suddenly and unexpectedly jump off while still riding, you'll have extraordinary speed and look like a blur at all times.
  • Daytime Vent Glitch: When you enter the vent system, the outside is daytime even though the phone says it's 12:12 AM.
  • Paused Time Glitch: The time on your phone (and in clocks around the mall) will say 12:12 AM throughout the course of the island, even though time is obviously passing.
  • Wrong Island, Wrong Item: If you've gotten the map from the vent system in 24 Carrot Island, sometimes you can see it in the Night Watch vent system.
  • Stuck Pushing a Wall Glitch: In the vent system, if you destroy the barrier leading to the vent system B A/C panel on your first time up system B, the thief will get stuck pushing the wall instead of pushing the pile of junk onto the vent system A ladder.
  • Stuck Pushing a Wall Glitch 2: If you use the blowtorch on a barrier in your way and then start pushing on it before it fully disappears, when it does disappear, you will move forward as if you were still pushing it, including the sweating and facial expressions.
  • Back For More: After finishing Night Watch Island, click on your phone and check Printfax on the security camera. Preston is still there!

Virus Hunter

  • Deja Vu Glitch: After the man on the roof has given you the fake PDC ID and you talk to Dr. Lange, any time you return to the roof and click on him, he's supposed to say "you're on your own." However, a glitch can occur where you go through the shredded documents dialogue again, and he tells you that he has the ID for you, but instead your cursor becomes the blue loading swirl and you won't be able to move. You will have to log out and log back in to fix this.
  • Deja Vu Glitch 2: (Note: This glitch is similar to the Broken Loading Screen Glitch, also found on this island.) After the ship tutorial, if you fail once and then close the computer screen after you succeed, Dr. Lange will start speaking normally, but after she is done talking, you will be stuck with the loading cursor on the after-tutorial scene and you won't be able to do anything or move. I encountered this glitch and I fixed it by logging out and logging back in. Upon doing this, the after-tutorial scene replayed, and subsequent scenes played smoothly. Discovered by Red Eye (username: aver18).
  • Missing Documents/Falafel Glitch: A glitch can occur that makes it so the falafel man doesn't make a delivery to Globochem, which prevents you from getting inside. This may be caused by another glitch, which only allows you to piece together the PDC Secret Laboratory document, but not the pizza ad or script. When I was playing the island, I put together the secret lab document, but the man on the roof started his dialogue before I was able to put together the other documents. I was still able to get the PDC badge, go to the secret lab, and get my instructions about Patient Zero; however, the falafel man was still saying that they weren't open yet, so I refreshed the page so I could start the scene with the roof man over again. The second time, I still had the dossier and the camera from the lab when I went onto the roof, but the man went through his whole dialogue and gave me the fake badge again. Then the island was stuck on the swirling blue cursor. (This is an example of the Deja Vu Glitch.) I refreshed the page one more time and instead of talking to the man on the roof, I went straight to the falafel man and this time I was able to get into Globochem. It's unknown what caused this glitch: it could have either been the shredded documents or a totally separate error, but if refreshing doesn't work for you, you may need to restart the island.
  • Invisible Platform Glitch 4: When you arrive at the elevator in the VHS shop and click the button to go down, then hop onto the area where the shelf used to be, you'll be standing on an invisible platform.
  • Getting Stuff Back Glitch: If you exit the game while in Joe Stockman's body, you will sometimes get all of your stuff back, even after the white blood cells have taken it. However, you still must go through the island as usual.
  • Yay, I Just Learned to Teleport Glitch 3: A glitch can cause you to fall out of Joe's mouth, and you will end up stuck with no way to move. Logging out and logging back in will fix this.
  • Trapped in Joe's Hand/Brain Glitch: Sometimes, after the white blood cells steal your gear, you cannot exit Joe Stockman's hand or brain. Refreshing the page may fix this, but you might have to restart the island.
  • Missing Intestinal Virus Glitch: When you enter Joe's intestines after retrieving the shield from his mouth, you're supposed to encounter a large virus, fight it, and get your laser scalpel back from the white blood cells. This laser scalpel will let you cut through the layers of fat in the heart, the next organ you're supposed to visit. A glitch can occur where this virus doesn't appear. Because of this, you don't retrieve the scalpel, which means you are unable to enter any other part of the body to get your other equipment back. Restarting the island didn't fix this glitch.
  • Broken Loading Screen Glitch: After playing the tutorial before entering Joe's body, you get stuck on a black screen with the target cursor, and you cannot continue. Restarting the island did not work, so it is unknown how to fix this glitch.
  • Immortal Virus Glitch: Some regular viruses in Joe Stockman's body cannot be defeated, but if they go past your ship, nothing will happen. They will disappear when they go off-screen.
  • The Revenge of The Heart Virus Glitch: Sometimes, if you battle the heart virus twice, you will be stuck with the loading cursor once you defeat it. You have to log out and log back in to fix this.

Galactic Hot Dogs

  • Zombify Glitch: If you buy Zombify in the store and use it on the island, the people on the island appear zombified. However, you might get stuck on the inventory screen, and the only solution is to log out and log back in. This probably happens because the NPCs here are not intended to function like normal NPCs, meaning they are not Poptropicans and thus aren't meant to be affected by the player in any way.
    • It's possible that other islands with non-Poptropican NPCS, such as Timmy Failure Island, have this problem as well.

Shrink Ray Island

  • Wrong Password Glitch: Clicking on the magazine next to the toilet with the article about cracking passcodes causes your Poptropican to say, "I wonder if C.J. has a password like that." If you don't do this, even entering the correct password into her computer will give you a message saying that the password is invalid.
  • Forgot How to Jump Glitch: A glitch can occur when you get to the top of the left television antenna that makes it harder for you to get to the green balloon. Logging out and logging back in might fix this. (Note: I am guessing because I don't know how to fix this glitch.)
  • Faulty Catapult Glitch: This glitch makes it harder for you to get to the top of the refrigerator where the remote control is. It will cause you to fall from the spatula after the salt shaker hits the other end, rather than being catapulted. This can happen multiple times until the salt shaker is no longer on the spatula. You can fix this by jumping off the shelf, picking up the grape again (which will always cause you to say, "This is one heavy grape!"), jumping on the toaster handle again, and getting back on the shelf and pushing the salt shaker again. Logging out works occasionally, but doing this may trigger the Missing Battery glitch.
  • Paper Glitch: During or after adjusting the thermostat, tilting the lamp, or turning it on, trying to use the lemon-covered paper will result in your Poptropican saying, "Why would I use the paper here?" You will continue saying this until you click on the diary again.
  • Missing Battery Glitch: To get the key to C.J.'s diary, you are supposed to use the screwdriver to take out her toy truck's battery. What should happen is that the battery case lid falls, revealing the battery, which you put in the television remote. Turning on the TV will give you static electricity, which you can use to jump on the balloon to get to the shelf with the fish food. A glitch can occur that makes it so that you can't do this. If you get this glitch, the battery will not be in the truck, and if you try to use the screwdriver, you will end up saying, "This is not a good place to use the screwdriver." Without the battery, you cannot get the static electricity, which makes it impossible to get to the shelf with the fish food. This leaves you with no way to get the key to the diary, which makes the island impossible to finish without restarting.
  • Buggy Trashcan hitboxes: If your browser magnification is set to any value that is not 100% the hitboxes in the trash can will be spectacularly broken. You can clip out of bounds by accident, escape falling items, squeeze between items you are not supposed to be able too, jump two tiles high where you are intended to only be able to jump one, clip inside walls and jump upwards while in them, in effect giving you a free ladder.

Timmy Failure Island

  • Auto-Throw Glitch: After you open the cabinet above Total and get the rice crispy treats, you are supposed to equip them and press space bar to throw them to make him follow you. Sometimes, the game will automatically do this for you.
  • Pet Glitch: If you have a pet and bring it to the island, it may disintegrate and stop moving when you feed Total with bonbons.

Mocktropica

  • One-Man-Dialogue Glitch: Right after the boss fight with all four of the workers, if your computer crashes or you log out when they all are supposed to fall, only the tester guy will fall. When the dialogue comes, only he will talk since there is no one else there. You will be stuck with the loading cursor, and you have to log out and log back in or possibly restart the island.
  • No Helmet Glitch: Sometimes after jumping off the roof, the man won't give you the giant helmet. This causes you to be unable to break the letters and enter the server later, making the island unbeatable unless you restart it.
  • The Cake is a Lie Glitch: Once you obtain the cake, clicking "Use" before the intended time will cause it to be used up, rendering the island unbeatable. Restarting is the only solution.
  • Curd Machine Speed Glitch: If you touch the curd speed machine and then destroy it with the pickaxe, Lance Pitcher runs over and you are stuck with the loading cursor. This can be undone by logging out and logging back in.
  • The Worker's Revenge Glitch: Sometimes, after you pay the ad lady to get rid of the ads for you, the budget lady will stay silent when you go down to the first floor of the headquarters. If you click on her, she will say, "My bank account is suh-weet," which won't make you move on to the scene where you have to enter the server (but it also doesn't make your cursor the loading icon). You can fix this by either logging out and logging back in, or by going to another island via the map menu and coming back. This glitch was discovered by Moody Hawk (username: amy459) and Trusty Tiger (username: guy251).
  • Greedy Focus Tester Glitch: Normally, the Focus Tester does not ask for coins after a certain point. Ironically, the fake inventory glitch results in a real glitch where you cannot find Billy Jordan to fix your bag because the Focus Tester still wants coins, but you cannot give them to him because you have no bag. If you get more from the Shady Guy, they cannot go anywhere because your bag is still broken. The only way to fix this is to restart the island.
  • Broken building relocation: The task where you must relocate the buildings into an advantageous order to climb on top of mocktropica HQ becomes arduous, as moving any buildings by hand in the terminal means that even after saving and quitting the buildings stay in the original location. You must spam random order until one that makes it possible to complete that line of the quest appears, or restart the island. It's a pain in the ass either way.
  • Always Grumpy Glitch: At the point where you have to go find Lance Pitcher from the Cheese Curds Factory, you have to go to the basement and put the island on happy instead of grumpy and then go to get Lance Pitcher. However, a glitch can occur where you are unable to do this as the island will stay on grumpy mode. Even when you go back and put it on happy mode and click save and quit a bunch of times, it won't go on grumpy mode, rendering the island impossible to complete without restarting.

Monster Carnival

  • Same Scene Glitch: If you go to Main Street after the carnival begins, you will start over from a previous scene after heading back. If this happens, go right again and then go back to the left.
  • Where's the Fried Dough Glitch: If you use the Fried Dough while in front of the Raven-shaped beam and log out in the middle of Edgar waking up, when you log back on, the beam will still be pointed at your face, Edgar will still be hypnotized, and the Fried Dough will be gone. Without the dough, you can't help Edgar, and the island will be unbeatable. The only way to finish it is if you restart the island.
  • I'm Not Thirsty Glitch: After talking to the man at the Ferris wheel when it breaks down a second time, you need to get oil to grease the gears and get the couple off the ride. You are supposed to go to the Fried Dough counter, stand next to the woman, and select "use" on the souvenir cup to get the fry oil. However, the glitch will cause you to say, "I'm not thirsty right now." Refreshing does not solve this issue, and you'll have to restart the game to fix it.
  • No Osmium Glitch: Right after having your weight guessed correctly, you must go to the Apothecary so that you can acquire osmium to keep in your pocket. This will allow you to fool the weight guesser, as osmium is very heavy, even in a small amount. A glitch can occur that causes the orange box on the cart by the Apothecary's counter to not contain any osmium. (Note: I've encountered this glitch twice and have no idea if it was patched or not.)
  • Revenge of the Raven Glitch: There is a glitch that may occur when you chase the Ringmaster Raven into the House of Mirrors. It will make the game lag so that it is more difficult for you to smash the mirrors and catch him. The game will not lag in any other location on the island. Restarting does not solve the issue. All you can do is finish the island as it is. (This glitch has yet to be confirmed, it may have just been my computer.)
  • Bonus Quest Softlock Glitch: After gathering all the items needed for Chemical X, assembling it, and returning to Dr. Dan one final time, there's a chance that when the townsfolk appear to confront him, they will simply stand there doing nothing. The game still considers the player within a cutscene, leaving them with a loading swirl. Upon logging out and logging back in, the Wild Mushroom Extract and the Diet Cola can be re-obtained, but not the Pickle Juice. A restart of the entire island is necessary in order to complete the bonus quest.

Survival

  • Broken Scene Glitch: A glitch may occur that makes it impossible to move on to Episode 2. You will finish Episode 1 and receive your medallion, but when you try to click the next episode button, it will not work. None of the episodes after Episode 1 will work if you try to select them from the map, even if you've already completed them previously. If you go back to Episode 1, you can create another fire and your Poptropican will say "Ahh, that feels nice," as before, but it will not trigger the start of Episode 2. Refreshing the page, logging out, and restarting the island do not fix this. This glitch makes it impossible to complete the island. (Edit: I managed to finally continue by clicking on Survival Island on the map, selecting Play Episode 2, restarting it, clicking off so it showed the main map again, and then repeating the first two steps. I don't know why this caused it to work. I had to repeat this for each episode.)
  • Broken Scene Glitch 2: If you start on Episode 5, the chasing scene will not play. Instead, the scene will appear and your Poptropican can completely move freely as if you were on any regular island. Myron Van Buren's head also appears, but he remains silent. Clicking on him will cause your Poptropican to not be able to move. Refreshing the page or restarting the island does not solve the glitch. Therefore, the episode is impossible to complete.
Very Weird Poptropica Glitch

Arabian Nights

Episode 1: How Bazaar

  • Never Ending Items Glitch: After you get the spyglass from the man under the red and gold canopy, or the lamp from the veiled woman, the respective items remain on the vendors' tables. You can keep trading for them, but each time you receive the spyglass or lamp, this will occur. Once you have placed the spyglass on its stand on the tower, it is possible to get another one, but you cannot do anything with it except trade it for something else. If you try to trade the lamp back to the woman you bought it from, it will register as salt.

Episode 2: Lair of Thieves

  • Teleporting Glitch: When you first get captured by the thieves, you're supposed to be locked in a cell. However, you may end up on the bottom floor of the prison, where the guard will say "Halt prisoner! You're going back in your cell!" As this happens, you and the prisoner next to you will be going through your intro dialogue.
  • Missing Sand Bomb Glitch: This glitch causes a wrecking ball to be dropped on the guard with the keys, knocking him out. (You're supposed to do this yourself later in the game.) This happens when you escape from your cell, exit to the right, and then go back to the cells. Unlocking the cell of the prisoner next to you will cause him will follow you to the cavern with the altar. Every time you try to walk past the ruby-eyed money counter standing there, the prisoner will say "Stop, he'll see you!" The only way to get past the money counter is to make his piles of coins fall into the water by throwing a sand bomb, which you are supposed to collect the materials to make as part of the episode. You don't have a sand bomb or any way to make one, which makes beating the episode impossible without restarting. (Note: I actually encountered this glitch the very first time I played this episode, and I was very confused because I thought it was supposed to be like this, even though there is no way to continue should the glitch occur. I have since encountered it again while replaying the island.)
  • Falling Through the Floor Glitch: A glitch may occur where the wrecking ball in your prison cell falls through, knocking out the guard underneath you. This leaves you stuck in your cell with no way to get out. Logging out and logging back in may fix this, but this glitch can also trigger the Missing Sand Bomb Glitch, causing the other guard to be knocked out as well.

Episode 3: Careful What You Wish For

  • Camel Gender Glitch: In the first episode, the man with the camel said that it was a male camel, but in the third episode, the camel is a female. This is proven when the owner tells you that she was very resourceful because of how she found her way back to him, and when the palace guard who wished to be irresistible to all the ladies attracted the camel.

Mystery of the Map

  • Useless Axe Glitch: When you go to cut down the tree by the garbage chute, sometimes you will find that the cutting does absolutely nothing, and you will be stuck with the loading cursor. The only way to fix this is to restart the island.
  • Piggy Back Glitch: When you pour the drippings onto the guard, when the pigs come chasing after him, sometimes one pig can be seen riding on the back of another.

Escape From Pelican Rock

  • Gender Goof Glitch: If you are a female character and you costumize eye wear from a male NPC on another island (for example, the sunglasses on boy at the bus stop on Virus Hunter) before you start this island for the first time, when you take a glimpse at the Booted Bandit, you will say, "There he is!" even though the bandit is supposed to be the same gender as your character (female, in this case). Also, the bandit will not have the same eye wear as you, and most of the prison NPCs will be male. (This will probably happen in reverse if your character is male, but this has not been confirmed.)
  • Back to Town Glitch: At any time while in the prison, if you ever press the previous page button, you will be sent back to town. You will still have all your items, but the game thinks you're in jail, so the cops will be gone and the robbery has already happened. This leaves you with no way to get back to jail without restarting the island.
  • Cook dialogue softlock: Approaching the cook will trigger the dialogue where he requests you provide three eggs. When the dialogue ends, your proximity to the cook will immediately trigger the dialogue again. There are brief moments when your character is able to move between dialogue boxes, however when the dialogue box triggers again your character will automatically walk back into range to trigger the dialogue box, in effect creating a loop you are unable to escape. This softlock requires an Island restart to escape, however to avoid this simply put off talking to the cook until you have obtained the three eggs, completely skipping the broken dialogue box all together.
  • Marion Glitch: You can encounter a glitch at work time during Day One. After you give Marion the drill bit, if you close the computer screen while they're talking, their mouth will still be moving when you log back in and you will be stuck with the loading cursor. You have to log out and log back in to fix this.
  • Falling Through the Ceiling Glitch: When you sneak up to the vents above the cafeteria at night to change the direction of the airflow so it blows above Florian's favorite spot, sometimes if you jump, you will fall right through the ceiling and into the lunchroom. Since you do this at night, no one is there, and you have no choice but to refresh the page and log in again. When you do this, you will appear in the lunchroom during mealtime rather than back in your cell, on the same day that you snuck into the vents. None of your changes to the vents will save, so you will have to redo them that night.
  • Ow, My Butt Glitch: If you click on the food at the table where Patches and Marion are sitting, you are supposed to sit on the bench to eat it. However, the awkward angle at which you have to sit will often cause you to move downward, making it look like you've fallen through the bench onto the floor.
  • Cup Glitch: A glitch can occur that will cause you to repeat the metal cup dialogue every time you adjust the vents unsuccessfully. Each time, you will say, "Nothing here to fill this with," even though you have not attempted to use the cup.
  • Stupid Jumper Glitch 3: In the courtyard, if you click on Florian Fosbury while standing on the first step, you will jump up and down glitchily. However, you can exit this by moving.
  • Cop Clone Glitch: When you have escaped from Pelican Rock and go to climb up Kurt's Fish Warehouse to get to the top, you will see copies of each police officer standing at various locations on the hill.

Home Island

  • Spinner Glitch: When you make a new account and have not saved your game yet, when you click the daily spinner, it will ask you to save your game. If you do that right away, then tell the person operating the spinner you want to know how to save your game, the game will tell you to click the button in the bottom right corner in order to save your game. The button is not there because you've already saved your game, and there is no exit button, so you are forced to reload the page to continue.

Mini-Islands

Ads

  • Ad Flying Glitch: In certain ads you enter from Early Poptropica or Super Power Island, you will be able to use your Jet Pack or flying power.
  • Disney Nonstop Summer Ad Invisible Platform: In the Disney Nonstop Summer Ad you jump or fly (depending which Island you're on) to the green circular top. You will land on the top, but then jump higher again and you'll be standing on air. If you try moving away from the top then you fall down onto the ground again.
  • Skull Cowboy Glitch: On any given Island zoom out in the Ad section. Take a closer look at the bottom of the screen and you will find a glitch poptropican known as Skull Cowboy.
  • Easy Flag Glitch: On certain ads in early poptropica, you're able to climb to the top of them, and jump to the left to get the flag almost immediately.
  • Character Save Glitch: In any ad, when you finish a game and are rewarded with items, you will be unable to save your game in the ads. When you exit the game and are inside the building with the ad, your Island items will be gone. If you want to exit the game, it will ask you to save by creating a username. If you don't do this, you won't be able to exit. To solve this problem, simply create an account.

Generic (These can occur on any island)

  • Sad Page Glitch: When you select a character and press 'play' it might bring you to a page with the 8-bit sad page icon. If this happens refresh to gt out of the icon. However I don't know how to solve this problem. (Note: This happened to me on the Cool Math version of Poptropica) Discovered by Hyper Lightning (Alphaon_Girl)
  • Fly Glitch: Buy any costume with a space bar item. Next, press space while walking off a building, practice many times until you get it right, eventually you will get it right and you will start flying in the air until your animation deactivates. This can easily be used to skip parkour, get to something you are supposed to access way earlier, or completely glitch out the game entirely to a point were you have to refresh your page, no game-breaking glitches but still cool to mess around with. This glitch was discovered by Moody Crumb (luigi8523).
  • Hat Jump Glitch: Whenever you jump, in the frame before you actually are in the air, your hat will look odd.
  • Broken Arm Glitch: If you drop off a platform, land on another one, and immediately fall off that one (for example, the school roof and then the broken sign in Big Nate Island), you may see your Poptropican's arm go crazy.
  • I'm a Chameleon Glitch: Sometimes when you go onto a new screen that you didn't walk onto (like in Time Tangled Island where you teleport into a different time period), your Poptropican will stand there, not blinking, with their eyes just staring into space in different directions instead of following your moua sad se. Clicking on the screen will fix this, and sometimes it'll just go away by itself.
  • Name Glitch: There is a secret glitch that enables you to change your name or have no name at all. For example, This user changed its name, and This user has no name.
  • Bald Common Room Glitch: If you enter a common room, then exit, wait until Poptropica stops loading, then immediately enter the common room again. You will be bald, with a regular white shirt and black pants—the clothes that Afro Guy wears. To escape this glitch, you close the Poptropica tab, open it again, log in, and you'll have your normal clothes again.
  • Name Unknown Glitch: Name Unknown is a character you might play as when you sign up/if there's a bug with the game.
  • Teleporting Enemy Glitch: If you enter a map screen that has enemies attacking you (example: at sea on Skullduggery) then you'll see enemies literally appear out of nowhere. This works on Skullduggery (with pirate ships and monsters) and Astro-Knights (with aliens).
  • Afro GuyA mysterious Poptropican who appears randomly, usually during faulty loading screens, and seems to be the default poptropican.
  • Angry Smile Glitch: Pressing Ctrl, Shift, and 3 together make you do the "angry" emotion where your head turns red. However, if you press Ctrl, Shift, and 1, 2, or 4 (other emotions) while your face is red, your face will be red while you do these emotions. (See "Angry Flyer Glitch" for Super Power)
  • I Can't Move Glitch: (Tested with Google Chrome) If you are in a Common Room and you open a new tab, and while you are on this new tab someone asks you to battle in Poptropica, and by the time you get back to Poptropica they've left, click "Sure" then press S. After you do this, you will be unable to move. You can exit, but you can't jump around.
  • Starting in the Same Place Glitch: Every time you enter a new scene, you start in the same place. Usually, this is at the first place you were when you entered the scene for the first time, such as at the go left sign or on the rope for the blimp. This also means that when entering and leaving buildings, you start in the same place every time, so while it may be convenient for travel, islands which require you to find alternate entrances/exits to buildings are impossible to complete because they will always bring you to the front door.
  • Cannot Move Glitch: This Glitch is related to the I Can't Move glitch. If your poptropican is in a multiverse and you don't move your Poptropican for a very long time, your Poptropican will not move, you must exit the Multiverse in order to get free. This also happens when your Poptropican stays for a very short time, and it will be stuck.
  • Easy Climber Glitch: If you're climbing rope and you press Ctrl, Shift, and 1, 2, or 3, you'll be standing on the rope afterward.  press Ctrl, Shift, and 1, 2, or 3 a lot while doing this glitch, you might freeze on that emotion until you move.
  • Fake Eyepatch Glitch: If you are wearing an eyepatch and you cry, tears come out of the eyepatch.
  • Friend Yourself Glitch: Sometimes you can have the friend, battle and chat icons above your player. Click Friend and you will friend someone called Maroon Rider. (This is Multiverse version of Maroon Rider glitch)
  • Gender Change Glitch: If you log into two accounts at the same time, your character changes genders. This CANNOT be undone.
  • BETA Glitch: Sometimes BETA islands will not load, causing you to be stuck. You will have to exit the game and log back in.
  • Too Many Photos Glitch: If you have 169 or more photos and you try to see all of them, you will be unable to do so. You can click on the blue to make them visible.
  • Cartwheel Glitch: Equipping Silly Streamers and using them while rolling will cause you do to a cartwheel.
  • Super Jump Glitch: Putting on the ninja costume and activating its ability while jumping or walking over an object the will push you up (such as the kettle in Shrink Ray Island) will send you flying into the air to the top of the room.
